About Our Tattoos

How to apply:

The video below shows how to customize and apply one of our larger tattoos.

How long do they last?

Our temporary tattoos last about as long as the layer of skin you’ve applied them to. That is usually between 1 and 2 weeks, depending on a variety of factors. In the meantime, you will find that our temporary tattoos are remarkably resistant to soap and water. NEVER APPLY SUN SCREEN over temporary tattoos as they will quickly fall off.

Removing temporary tattoos

When the time comes when you want to remove them, there are a few ways to get it done.

Popular removal methods include using things like baby or olive oil, rubbing alcohol, nail-polish remover, cold cream, or clear adhesive “Scotch” tape.

If you are using oil, use a generous amount and let it sink in for a while. The oil will help slide it off of the skin. Then you’ll need to scrub vigorously with a washcloth and follow that up with a little soap to remove the oil.

The same technique pretty much goes for cold cream, although you might want to leave the cold cream to soak in for a solid hour.

Some also like using either rubbing alcohol, hand-sanitizer, or nail polish remover to help dissolve the glue.

All methods are greatly enhanced by some vigorous scrubbing with a washcloth or paper towel.

A little history

Temporary tattoo designs may have first been offered as surprise gifts in boxes of Cracker Jack at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Buried beneath all that caramel corn goodness, was a surprise novelty item of some sort. It seems that temporary tattoos may have came onto the scene at the same time as decoder rings.

Other theories suggest that being included with bubble gum packs is how they got their start. Either way, they were poor quality ink transfers that were blurry and washed off easily. The technology of how to make temporary tattoos has improved a lot since then.

Modern temporary tattoos involve high-resolution, four color printing techniques that combine ink and glue. It is now possible to make temporary tattoos that last well for about a week and a half. It is also possible to produce designs that are much larger than you would think. TattooYou.com currently offers sizes as large as 8”x10”.
